Alder

The following finishes are available on cabinets made from alder. A member of the birch family, alder is a moderately light-colored hardwood which is cream-colored when newly cut and turns a pink-orange shade while being worked. This “color bleeding” causes mature alder wood to be beautifully tinted and veined. Alder is much sought by furniture makers due to its distinctive character.

Variant: Rustic Knotty Alder

This variation of alder wood displays all of its distinctive characteristics with the added features of knots, splits, worm holes, and other naturally occurring characteristics, which may include visible holes that penetrate completely through the wood. Jobs ordered in this species of wood will not be matched for color and will thus display both sapwood and heartwood in varying amounts.
